Brooklyn's advice - live in the moment, enjoy it, and stay true to your vision

Brooklyn is a girl who knows what she wants! When she laid eyes on Ben at an event in Montreal in 2013 she walked right over and claimed him as hers with a big kiss! (Can you blame her – eye candy alert!) A few years (5 to be exact) and many kisses later, Brooklynn and Ben threw a week long of wedding festivities before tying the knot surrounded by vineyards and the lake.

The wedding was a reflection of them as a couple and what they loved; the outdoors, nature, spirit for the unconventional and lots of wine!

The ceremony and reception were both held at Poplar Grove Winery located in Penticton, British Columbia. The region has a special place in Brookyln’s heart as she had been going there with her family since she was a little girl. “I have never loved a small town the way that I love Penticton and, when I finally took Ben to visit, he loved it just as much as I did!” As a tribute to Ben’s home country, South Africa, protea flowers were a key element in all the florals.

THE DRESS

Brooklyn wore the Tulsa gown by Bo & Luca. A gorgeous hand-cut silk petal detailed dress made of silk chiffon, fitted at the top with thin silk straps and a deep-v low back! The dress has really delicate details which ultimately enhanced the flowing train at the back.

It was everything she wanted - effortless & chic all at the same time. It took a few trips to different bridal shops but when she visited Rituals of Love Bridal shop in Vancouver Canada and tried on the Tulsa it felt just right. “It made me feel so sexy and amazing and I knew that is the feeling you are suppose to get in your wedding dress.”

Brooklynn loved her dress hunt journey, her mom drove her and her besties to all appointments around Vancouver, they sipped champagne & soaked in all those unforgettable moments. She advices “do not overthink it and just have fun as cliche as that sounds. I tried on so many dresses, some that were definitely not my vibe, but I told myself I had to try on every style and feel out what looked best on my body.”

Kady McCappin works at Rituals of Love and played a part in helping Brooklynn pick the Tulsa…we spoke to Kady to get her side of the story..."I knew she had found the one before she did! She was going back and forth between her gown and another more simple gown, which I feel happens a lot for brides. She kept asking me what I thought, and I knew that the Tulsa gown was SO her. The hand beading and attention to detail that Bo & Luca puts into their pieces is incredible, they make wearable works of art. It really reflected her unique personal style".

Kady told she told her “you are a rock star, this is your dress” and the second she said that Brooklynn knew she was right!

Brooklyn found more than her dress at the boutique…her veil was specially hand made by Kady who works in the store and owns the veil brand Jane Rhyan The Collection

Brooklynn wasn't sure if she wanted to wear a veil, so Kady showed her some pieces that were unique, rather than traditional. She ended up going with the Jane veil, a really elegant cut. She loved it right away because it is easy to wear: it is short, sheer and not too voluminous, which is perfect for brides who are a little hesitant on wearing a veil. Kady said she finds most girls who put on a beautifully cut veil end up really wanting one, because of how it makes them feel so much like a bride.

Brooklynn completed her look with asymmetrical gold, shell earrings from Ellery, and pointed closed toe heels by Stuart Weitzman.

The wedding started off magically on a large open grass field, highlighted by the vineyards with a stunning view of the lake the wedding party walked down the isle to “Mystery of Love” by Sufjan Stevens followed by Brooklynn and her father to “Crimson and Clover” by Tommy James & The Shondells.

Their best friend Jonny, married them in a unique and very personal ceremony and the couple ended the ceremony with the recessional song “Signed, sealed, delivered” by Stevie Wonder (talk about a classic!).

Guest enjoyed the reception under a gorgeous tent adorned with fairy lights, flowers and delicate details keeping the tone natural, chic and elegant.

As the location was so stunning Brooklynn focused on flowers to add that extra touch to complete her vision.

She worked with Tanisha Out from Society Floral, who she describes as a master of her craft. Tanisha took all of Brookylnns inspiration and created something that was their own (inspiration came from following floral brands such as @brrch_floral on social media).

Instead of a traditional archway they changed it up and created arrangements of concrete boxes that lined the aisle and were placed behind the couple.

“My bridesmaids wore these beautiful mauve slip style dresses from Park & Fifth! I had ten bridesmaids (CRAZY, I know), so I needed to find ten fabulous but classic dresses, and I was lucky to find that at Park and Fifth! The dresses were classic, comfortable, and made all the ladies look incredible!

The groomsmen, hunky as can be, also wore a classic look, wearing dark navy pants with a white button up and black suspenders

The wedding cake was a vegan two-tiered open faced cake, birthday cake flavor, with vanilla buttercream and fresh raspberry filling. In addition they served vegan donuts topped with a vanilla icing!

The wine served was from Poplar Grove Wine, both red and White, along with their sister winery, Monster Winery, reds, whites, and roses. They also served draft beers, ciders, Guinness, and Stellas.

The couple wanted something more unconventional and opted for food stations which featured a cheese and bread station, a meat station with beef tenderloin and potatoes, a fresh seafood station with seared octopus and ceviche, and then a salad station with a variety of salads and veggies. Forget seconds most guests sneaked back for thirds! The set-up kept things dynamic between the guests

With a DJ who kept the wedding guests dancing under the stars untill early hours of the morning Brooklynn and Ben threw an unforgettable wedding!

Looking back Brooklynn said the whole day was just amazing but the speeches were probably the most memorable. “The speeches were hilarious, beautiful and even lyrical as my husband and his groomsmen surprised the guests and me with a song! We will never forget those moments."

Brooklyn’s advice: breathe and take it all in. The whole experience flashes by so fast, so live in the moment, enjoy it, and stay true to your vision. I think it's easy to get lost in the planning process, but having a clear idea and team that supports your vision is super important! My team was incredible; they understood what I wanted and always respected my choices! They are truly the reason it all came together!

Brookylnn loved planning the wedding, she knew exactly what she wanted, and Ben trusted her vision and went along with all of it! She also had an incredible team who understood her and the vision she had, which made everything lot easier. Sticking to the budget was the hardest! (we hear you!) She said that as a perfectionist the details mattered but with every detail comes a cost, so she was so thankful for her team because they were incredibly flexible and made everything work within their budget. She advices it’s an important factor to consider when choosing your wedding planner or any other team member; they have to respect your budget and be tactical when choosing certain elements.
